Workshop was conducted successfully

Gaganvedhi, group of amateur astronomers at Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli organized one day workshop on “Astronomy” on 21st September 2009.    Prof. Mohan Apte, Mumbai was present for whole day  to deliberate a series of talk on astronomy. Along with the one day workshop, an essay writing competition was organized on the occasion of  Gaganvedhi's 6th conception day.

    The workshop started with inauguration ceremony by auspicious hands of Prof. Mohan Apte, Dr. Mrs. Subbaraman (Dean Academics), Dr. P. G. Sonavane (Staff Advisor, Gaganvedhi Group) and Mr. Mahesh Kanse (President, Gaganvedhi Group).
   
    In morning session, Prof. Mohan Apte conducted a lecture on “Golden era of Astronomy”. In this session he explained all the progress made my man in space science and astronomy, starting from discovery of telescope to some future space missions (like creating station on moon). In afternoon session, hands-on workshop was conducted. The evening session started with Question-Answer session by Prof. Mohan Apte. A lecture by Prof. Mohan Apte was conducted after the prize distribution ceremony for essay writing. The topic for the lecture was “Mysteries of our Solar System”. In this session, he explained mysterious information about our solar system from Sun to Pluto and Comets. The lecture was concluded with some interesting  information regarding competitions held by international organizations such as NASA etc in the field of Aerospace and Astronomy. The workshop was concluded by Dr. P. G. Sonavane.

    More then 360 participants from schools / colleges around, enjoyed workshop. It helped to create curiosity and interest about astronomy among the participants.
